Back by popular demand! Our Annual Day of Play is scheduled for Friday, February 6!
The Global Day of Play is a worldwide celebration that encourages children and families to unplug from screens and reconnect through active, creative play. It highlights the importance of play in supporting physical health, emotional well-being, and social development. By promoting games, imagination, and outdoor activities, the day reminds communities everywhere that play is essential for learning, joy, and human connection.
This year's official Global Day of Play is Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Sunset Terrace will recognize this day for the 3rd straight year on Friday, February 6, 2026. We are in the process of planning many fun activities for this day and cannot wait to share more information about this as we finalize our plan.
Wildcats of the Week! Congratulations! Adham, Mirielle, Aaralyn, Camryn, Elizabeth, Sabella, Coleson, Luella, Jasper, Fenix, Palak, Adelina, Juliana, Spencer, Hosana, Anastasia, Olivia, Everly, and Auden

Wednesday January 14 we request our school community to join us for the dress up day of Sunset Terrace Spirit wear. For those students/staff that have a Unified Shirt we ask that they wear those.
Wednesday January 14 is LIVE UNIFIED Day. The Unified movement is all about making the world more inclusive for people with and without intellectual disabilities. If you "Live Unified" it means you help ensure that everyone has the right to play, learn and thrive in your school and community. Sunset Terrace remains the only elementary school in the RPS district that is a Unified Champion School and we are so proud of that!

Little Elves visited the building each night last week and created a little mischief! Here's a little evidence left behind: naughty and nice list, messages on windows, all staff chairs left in the media center, teacher names switched to something else...

Before we officially begin winter break, we want to take a moment to celebrate the amazing students we have at RPS! During their annual fundraising competitions, our high school students raised a combined $123,077.95 for local organizations! Thank you, students, for all your hard work and effort to invest back into our community.
This is a reminder that there are no classes from Monday, December 22 through Friday, January 2. RPS classes will resume Monday, January 5 (Longfellow will resume Monday, January 12). Enjoy your Winter Break!

As we finish up Inclusive Schools week, we thank all the work that staff and students put into it! We hope that the value of making others feel seen and accepted, even when their abilities might be far different than others, will extend outside of the school building as well. Some questions we challenge our school community to reflect on are: (1) Do we protect each other from bullying or peer pressure (in person and online)?, (2) Are we the friend that we want others to be to us?, and (3) Do we make certain that our circle of friends includes the diversity reflected in our community and world? Happy Inclusive Schools Week! #sominnesota

We have been really working hard toward completing a variety of missions as part of Inclusive Schools Week! Activities that have been completed by Unified Friends and Unified Partners have included dance parties, arm wrestling challenges, wheelbarrow races, sports play, acts of kindness, whole-class pledges to promote inclusion, and having extra opportunities for togetherness! How wonderful our staff and students are at promoting acceptance, diversity, respect, and community! #sominnesota
Unified DAPE is a Unified activity that we have been doing for several years now to promote inclusion and our Unified programming. Our Student Council members support in a Developmental Adaptive Physical Education Class (DAPE) for students who have cognitive disabilities. They participate with our Unified friends and provide encouragement with a variety of exercise and sports activities. Thanks to Mrs. Kari Johnson our DAPE teacher to lead this activity a couple times each month. #sominnesota

This year our school has implemented Unified Breakfast Buddies to expand our community building and inclusive handprint. Two times a month kids are invited into our special education classrooms that support students with cognitive disabilities to enjoy breakfast, play games, listen to music, and socialize in a positive atmosphere. It is a great way to start a school day! @sominnesota

Inclusive Schools Week is here at Sunset Terrace! One way that we promote inclusion at our school is through Unified Field Trips. Our Unified Friends with their Unified partners in the school council have been able to take 1 to 2 field trips yearly. Field trips have included bowling, adaptive climbing at ROCA, and play at Boundless. @sominnesota
